JLR COVID-19 Training Policy

JLR COVID-19 Training Policy

This policy applies to JLR training conducted at the I-CAR Tech Center in Appleton, WI.

Coronavirus or COVID-19 as it is properly known, is reported to be expanding around the world, with cases in the United States. The safety and wellbeing of both our technicians and trainers is our number one concern.

Preparing for Travel

COVID Self-Assessment

Prior to attending this training event, we are asking technicians to self-assess their situation, using the following questions below:

  • Within the last 14 days, have you returned from any countries outside of the USA?
  • Have you had close contact with or cared for someone diagnosed with COVID-19 within the last 14 days?
  • Have you been in close contact with anyone who has traveled within the last 14 days to any countries outside of the USA? (wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/notices)
  • Have you experienced any cold or flu like symptoms in the last 14 days (to include fever, chills, muscle pain, headache, cough, sore throat, respiratory illness, difficulty breathing, new loss of taste/smell)?

If any of the answers to these questions result in a “Yes”, we ask that the Technician does not attend the training event. Any associated fees of cancelling will be waived. In addition, the cost of the training event, already paid, will be applied to a future registration or refunded.

If the answer is “No” to all of the above questions, we look forward to seeing the Technician at the training event. However, we ask that Technicians monitor their health prior to traveling to the training. If any health changes occur, we ask the Technician to reconsider their attendance.

Required PPE & Hygiene Practices

It is expected that technicians practice safe practices during welding at their collision repair facility. The Training facility also requires the proper safety procedures and clothing/equipment be used during the training events. Therefore, technicians are required to bring personal safety clothing for the training. This includes:

  • Welding helmet
  • Welding gloves
  • Welding jacket
  • Proper protective footwear

During COVID, the Training facility is not able to temporarily provide any protective clothing for use during the training event. If a technician arrives without the proper safety attire listed above, the technician will be referred to a local supplier to purchase the necessary items at the technician’s expense.

It is expected that technicians will practice good hygiene at all times. This includes:

  • Cover your cough
  • Wash hands often for a minimum of 20 seconds.
  • Avoid touching your face.
  • Use hand sanitizer if soap and water are not immediately available.
  • Avoid shaking hands with others.

Upon Arrival at Training Facility

Upon your arrival at the I-CAR Tech Center in Appleton, WI, for your training event, please adhere to the following requirements each day of the training:

  • Enter through designated entrance only.
  • Wear a mask upon entering the facility.
  • Sign in and complete a COVID self-certification questionnaire.
    • Anyone answering “Yes” to any of the questions will not be permitted to attend the training event.
  • Temperatures will be taken and recorded on questionnaire.
    • Anyone with a fever of 100.4°F (38°C) or higher will not be permitted to attend the training event.

What To Expect While at the Training Event

To help mitigate the potential spread of the COVID-19 virus, the training facility has been prepped to provide appropriate physical distancing while ensuring the training experience is of the highest quality. Here is what a technician can expect while at the training facility.

  • Hand sanitizer will be available for use throughout the facility.
  • Masks are to be worn at all times.
  • Classroom and Training areas are arranged to allow for proper physical distancing at all times. A classroom table, welding booth and workbench will be assigned for only you to use throughout the week.
  • There are two bathrooms at the facility. Technicians attending training events will be designated to one bathroom, and staff will be designated to another.
  • Common areas and high-touch items will be sanitized throughout the day.
  • Work spaces (tables, chairs, door handles, equipment, etc.) will be thoroughly cleaned/sanitized at the end of each day.
  • Restrooms will be thoroughly cleaned/sanitized at the end of each day.

To maintain a healthy environment, please know that the Trainers may dismiss a Technician from the class if the Technician is appearing symptomatic.

After the Training Event

Some state, local, and territorial governments may have requirements regarding travel outside the local area, and may require those who recently traveled to stay home for up to 14 days upon return. We encourage you to follow these requirements if applicable.
