Great Designs in Steel 2018 Presentations: A Closer Look – 2020 Ford Escape

The 2020 Ford Escape presentation at the 2019 Great Designs in Steel highlights some changes that sets this vehicle apart from the from the previous model years of the Escape. There have been several changes made to the 2020 model year. Let’s take a closer look at a couple of these changes.

The 2020 Ford Escape features a Martensitic steel tube reinforcement within the roof rail, as well as aluminum rocker panel reinforcements. 3D load path construction is used for the front lower rails to increase safety in the passenger compartment. Along with these structural changes, the Escape also has a full glass roof, meaning the surrounding structure is stronger to compensate for the lack of roof bows.

The Escape is offered in a HEV and plug-in hybrid option. The 2020 Escape features the largest high voltage battery to date from Ford, with a 500-mile range. This vehicle also contains Park Assist 2.0 that can parallel park and park the vehicle into a parking space.
