OEM Linking Pin: Wheel Alignment - Audi ADAS Clarification

As part of the I-CAR Repairability Technical Support (RTS) OEM linking pin activity, we are helping to connect the collision repair industry to the vehicle makers. Recently, we had a technical inquiry on whether a wheel alignment is required before a system calibration can be performed. We reached out to Audi for clarification.

Per our contact at Audi: "It depends on what work was done. If the shop replaced the entire suspension and sub-frames full is needed. If we are talking about a bumper cover replacement, then we are looking at a quick check to assure that the thrust angle is correct. Either method requires that the thrust angle is true before doing the calibration."

Audi has two options, complete alignment or quick access. Underneath these options are examples of when the complete or the quick access procedures should be performed, per Audi repair manuals.

Some of the examples of when to do the complete alignment are:

  • "The rear axle toe was adjusted."
  • "The vehicle suspension was changed, for example changing from standard to sport suspension."

Some of the examples of when to do the quick access are:

  • "The front bumper was removed and installed or replaced."
  • "The front bumper was loosened or adjusted."
  • "There is damage on the front bumper."

Before beginning any repairs always check the latest vehicle-specific repair information at erwin.audiusa.com. Understanding ADAS, and specific procedures is important to ensure a complete, safe, and quality repair.
